barely acknowledging
sadness and anger

staking candidacies
on fanning out
and cracking down
while navigating
hidden trails

defiantly stomping
in flip-flops
and turned-up collars

spying through high-
power binoculars
at oil-pump jacks

having flashbacks
taking last stands
riot gear in hand...
